Web Development Director

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Web Development Director to lead our web development team, drive innovation, and oversee the creation of our B2B websites. The ideal candidate will have a strong web development and WordPress background, leadership experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects, development partners, and resources. This role involves both strategic oversight and hands-on contribution to web development efforts. This role involves frequent client interaction and collaboration with the development, design, and project management teams. 

Key Responsibilities   

Team Leadership & Development 
  • Lead, mentor, and collaborate with development teams, UX/UI designers, and other web and marketing professionals. 
  • Guide best practices, emerging trends, and new technologies in web development. 
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. 
Project Management 
  • Oversee all phases of web development projects, from conception to deployment and maintenance. 
  • Work with cross-functional teams (marketing, design, and project management) to define project scopes, timelines, and deliverables. 
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality web solutions that align with business goals and user needs. 
Technical Leadership 
  • Drive the overall development of websites. 
  • Evaluate and select appropriate web technologies and tools (generally withing the WordPress ecosystem) for specific projects and the organization. 
  • Ensure that websites are scalable, secure, responsive, and optimized for performance. 
Strategy & Innovation 
  • Develop and implement the company’s web strategy in alignment with broader business objectives. 
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and technologies to maintain a competitive edge. 
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and implement solutions that enhance user experience and business efficiency. 
Budget & Resource Management 
  • Manage the web development budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. 
  • Collaborate with leadership and team members on resource planning. 
Quality Assurance 
  • Establish and maintain coding standards, version control, and quality assurance processes. 
  • Ensure all web solutions are tested and comply with web standards, including accessibility and SEO. 

Qualifications  

  • 10+ years of experience in web development with at least 3 years in a leadership role 
  • 5+ years of experience with WordPress and best practices 
  • 5+ years of agency experience  
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines 
  • Familiarity with DevOps processes and web security best practices 
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Experience with Git   
  • Strong expertise in front-end and back-end technologies (e.g., HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, React, Node.js, etc.) 

Preferred Skills  

  • Experience with mobile-first and responsive web design 
  • Knowledge of SEO, accessibility (WCAG), and user experience (UX) best practices 
  • Experience with Advanced Custom Fields Pro, Search & Filter Pro, and Gravity Forms plugins   
  • Experience with Elementor, WPML, WordPress MultiSite 
  • Experience with Page Speed Optimization 
  • Familiarity with DNS 
  • Understanding of Selenium 
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) 
  • Experience working with international development teams 
  • Experience with web infrastructure, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) 

A Day in the Life of a Web Development Director at Bop Design

Can include the following, but is not limited to: 

  • Attending and participating in morning scrum 
  • Meeting with the Business Development Director and prospective client to discuss a new website opportunity 
  • Meeting the Design Director for a Web Development Handoff meeting and preparing a website for development 
  • Reviewing a website that just came out of development for coding standards and QA 
  • Researching a new tool or plugin to accomplish specific functionality for a project 
  • Meeting with clients for a technical intake call, a website walkthrough, or to answer technical questions 
  • Working with a development partner to make and deploy edits to a retainer client’s website 
  • Reviewing a website that’s currently in the design phase and providing feedback to the designer based on budget, functionality, and knowledge of client goals 
  • Deploying a new website or edits and completing a post-deployment checklist 
  • Helping development team with technical questions, helping find solutions 
  • Addressing technical issues that team members may have 
  • Researching and vetting new vendors and freelancers (development, maintenance, etc.) 
  • Evaluating current processes and proposing changes to improve efficiency, accuracy, customer experience, etc.

Management

This position reports to the CEO 

Compensation

$100,000 – $130,000 depending on experience
